#32 Putting Yourself First

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

We as women are born nurturers.  We feel the need to take care of others and put their needs above our own and we genuinely enjoy it too!  While this is an amazing quality that we have, it is important to take “me” days.  Days where we do what we want when we want.   It can be as simple as cooking YOUR favorite meal for family dinner and as elaborate as treating yourself to a luxurious spa day.  In order for us to take care of others, we need to make sure that we, ourselves are taken care of first.  You will thank yourself for it!

#31 The Sound of Crashing Waves

Friday, April 19, 2013
The ocean is one of the most beautiful features of our planet.  The creatures that live in it, the necessities that come from it and the sounds of the moving water are all mesmerizing.  There is something so peaceful and calming about the noise that comes from the waves crashing onto shore.  We even love it enough to have it lull us to sleep at night through our sound machines.  If you ever get the chance, vacation in a place where you wake up to the waves breaking-we promise, it’s incredible!

Meditation—Fabulous for Inner and Outer Beauty

You don’t have to be a Yogi much less a spiritual guru to try meditation. There are various benefits from the practice of “training your mind to self induce a mode of relaxed consciousness.” The act of meditation often results in stress reduction, tranquility and even increased levels of happiness. If those factors alone don’t encourage you to try this technique, what about the fact there are several Hollywood celebs who incorporate meditation into their daily lives?

•             Russell Simmons
•             Gwenyth Paltrow
•             Gisele Bundchen

Now that you know who is transcending in tinsletown, here are some tips for getting started. First, find a quiet place where you can go uninterrupted for at least 15 minutes. Yes, you heard correct. 15-20 minutes is all it takes to meditate, although some people prefer a longer amount of time.

Next, lay down in the area you have selected and get comfortable. As an option, get a towel or eyemask to cover your eyes. You are ready to start. While counting to 5, take deep breaths in and out of your body. As you inhale, imagine that you are breathing in pure energy. As you exhale, tell your conscious mind that you are unloading negative thoughts and emotions. You can repeat this breathing to a point where all thoughts clear your mind and you are near a sleep state. Meditation and sleeping do in fact differ so do your best to remain awake but relaxed. If that sounds a little intimidating, guided meditations are a great tool to use as well. The exercises provide you with music and instructions during the process to help you reach a deeper, internal state.

You would be amazed at the fabulous feelings produced by 15 minutes of meditation. Even better is the power you gain in taking this time for yourself on a daily basis. If you still need some convincing, here is insight from Russell Simmons, who states that meditation “has given me energy, strength, health, wisdom, and access to my own inner stillness, inner silence, inner bliss. It is my connection to myself; it is my connection to the universe." What could be more fabulous than that? We can only thing of one thing, Pamper Me Fabulous on November 13th.

Have you ever meditated? What was your fabulous benefit? We want to know.

#16 Fabulous Things We Love: Breathing

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Breathing, though automatic and absolutely vital to our being is something that we tend to forget about. Thank god, we don't have to think about taking a breath in and a breath out at every moment of the day and night, we would never sleep, we would never do anything else. It is a blessing that our human bodies have been provided for by nerves that function without command. Still as wonderful as that is, today I noticed again, something that I, like my breathing have mot thought about in a while. And that is, that sometimes we do need to remind ourselves to breathe, not for our bodies, but for out mind.

At my new job today in a physical therapy practice I noticed patients, holding their breath and concentrating on everything but their breath. They were trying to so hard to do everything right that they forgot to nurture the aspect of themselves that provides oxygen, energy to preform. I think that in our everyday life we get so wrapped up thinking about trying to do " everything right" - that we forget the essential part of taking a breather, to clear out mind and to focus on ourselves, so that we might perform on our highest level. Nurturing ourselves we actually are not being selfish, we are allowing a more energetic, happy Self. Remember today to take a breath, practice breathing into your belly, into your ribs and into your breast bone. Thats why I love Yoga, because aside from nuturing your body and making it strong and flexible - it focuses on the importance of breath. Inhale the new and fresh present moment and release the used no longer needed!
